OBJECTIVES

Site hazard assessment / Building vulnerability analysis / Seismic risk assessment / Preliminary calculation of Sisma Bonus
The project stems from the idea of creating an easy, accessible and always available tool for seismic risk analysis capable of operating all over the national territory.
The main goal was to make the professionals able to easily calculate response spectra and synthetic accelerograms by simply accessing the application from their smartphone or tablet in real time even during an inspection.

The reduction of seismic risk requires the assessment of the vulnerability and the subsequent adjustment or improvement work to ensure greater levels of safety. The procedures for assessing seismic vulnerability of buildings can be conducted at different degrees of depth and complexity of calculation: from rather qualitative estimates, based on surveys and reports of the main characteristics of the building’s constituent structures, to complex numerical analysis using methods of linear and non-linear calculations.

SOLUTIONS

The application for seismic risk analysis for professionals and researchers
Idea75 has developed VARS, a web-based application dedicated to professionals and researchers for the analysis of seismic risk and Earthquake Bonus Sisma Bonus.

The application is divided into three stages that allow the user to enter the characteristics of the building studied and get the results back. The three stages recreate the classic structure of seismic risk analysis carried out on a single building: site hazard, building vulnerability and risk assessment in terms of integral probability.

Each stage shows several submenus for parameters selection. The data is processed automatically and the result is obtained in real time.

MORE IN DEPTH

The three stages recreate the classic structure of seismic risk analysis carried out on a single building:

  • site hazard: identification of the hazards of the site with the possibility of calculating elastic spectra and synthetic accelerograms;

  • building vulnerability: definition of the characteristics of the building and calculation of the Sisma Bonus with the possibility of calculating the project spectra;

  • risk: risk assessment in terms of integral probability and pursuant to D.M. 65, 07.03.2017 (Sisma Bonus) in terms of PAM and IS-V with conventional and simplified procedures with the possibility of printing the certification form (D.M. 65 of 07.03.2017 Annex B).

VARS provides multiple types of analysis useful for risk assessment

  • Through Sisma Bonus it is possible to carry out analyses pursuant to Ministerial Decree 65/2017 and carry out a preliminary analysis on the building of interest;
  • the probability of failure can be easily calculated for any location on national territory;
  • accelerograms are generated in order to be compatible with the spectra assigned according to the Technical Standards for Construction;
  • risk maps related to the entirety of the national territory can be viewed for some structural types.
